Today's moment is great, and it once again comes from the Volkswagen vault.
I don't know what it is, but as a copywriter, the phrase "so you could walk to the back to change a diaper, or squash a rebellion" is simply beautiful to me. I know it's an inter-familial rebellion of which they speak, but it's still friggin' fantastic.
To compare this to what Volkswagen's advertising is today does not make me smile.
Belongs to IMDB: "Damon Prepared to Take on 'Bourne' Identity Again"
Oh, IMDB. Wouldn't it have been much simpler, less wordy and more amusing - while still communicating the story's message - to say "Damon Willing to be 'Bourne' Again"?
I would say so. Of course, I'm biased, because we used "'Bourne' Again' as a headline on our story about the Touareg 2 in "The Bourne Ultimatum" for the fall/winter issue of Volkswagen Driver Magazine. But just because I'm biased doesn't mean I'm not right.
Because I am.
Today's moment is great, actually. Courtesy of Jalopnik, it's a beautiful, vintage animated ad (from the late '50s/early '60s?) for the People's Car and its iconic Transporter van.
The animation is lighthearted and fun, as is the swinging, Esquivel-like space-age-bachelor-pad soundtrack. I crave a martini, a smoking jacket and shag carpet every time I watch it.
If people ever wonder why Volkswagen has been so admired among ad people for so long, this is a good reason why.
