With sore-loser Hillary supporters saying the way in which she's been treated by the media and by Obama supporters is based in sexist attitudes. Hillary gets in the act herself this morning, telling the Washington Post that she thinks sexism has been a huge issue for her to overcome throughout the primary.
Give me a break. I tell you what, Hills: If you think sexism is still so rampant in our country, especially among the media covering your campaign, why don't you just get your fat behind back into the kitchen and make me a sandwich!
On behalf of a grateful nation, thank you. It must not have been easy to overrule your ego on this one. When you have thousands of people - including esteemed former and current politicians and dignitaries - urging you to run for president, it's probably a very flattering thing. And, in any other election, a third-party campaign from you would likely have a significant impact one way or another. But you wisely recognized that, in a likely Obama vs. McCain election, there was no room for you. Both will appeal strongly to independents, undecideds and moderate voters on both side of the aisle - the very type of voters your candidacy would thrive on. You would have been redundant in this election. Instead, you wisely chose to step aside.
For that, we thank you .
This is different. Completely different. Why? I believe her. And, I believe she has every right in the world to make a statement like that with conviction without any fear of reprisal. McCain and Hillary and Rush and Glenn Beck and all these other turbos can feign shock and disappointment all they want, but if they sit and really think about it, how can they disagree with her.
Here's why it's different: This isn't your garden-variety white liberal guilt here. This isn't John Kerry or Joe Biden making that declaration. It's a black American female. She has the perspective that anyone else who wants to pillory her for what she said almost certainly does not have. A perspective built on slavery, institutional racism, informal racism, prejudicial justice systems, Tom Crow, voter disenfranchisement, Dred Scott...shall I go on? Or, should she want to look more recently in the past, I'm sure her husband's service as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago for more than a decade exposed her a lot of the suffering, hardships and challenges her fellow blacks face even today - enough, probably, to make her ask a lot of tough, hard questions about the state of the country she calls home.
This is why she has every right to say what she did - and why no one like a John McCain or Sean Hannity has any right to punish her for it. Because - this time, at least - it's different.
Ratface, in this instance, is our beloved Man in Washington, Mark Souder. The sinking ship is the error of comedies that has become Matt Kelty's mayoral campaign. The desertion is Souder's very public and forthright revoking of his previous endorsement of Kelty for mayor. Matty, Matty, Matty: You've been a very naughty boy, and Congressman Ratface doesn't like it. Not one bit! You will pay for your transgressions. (Beyond being utterly humiliated in the general election in a couple of weeks, that is.)
Congrats, Matty. You've managed to even repulse one of the more repugnant, detestable and smarmy politicians out there. That's really saying something.
In the famous words of Nelson Muntz,
That Albie Gonzalez falls on his sword this afternoon. Late this afternoon. No time is better for bad news than a Friday afternoon. I don't see how he can show up for work Monday morning expecting to last the week. I'm feeling today.
I was all ready to make some great jokes about some lucky cell mate taking his new Scooter for a ride, but then I remembered that President Bush will give this guy the fastest pardon in history (if he hasn't already) and that they're all a bunch of liars and crooks and cronies and back-scratchers and nepotists and it made me sad.
But it was fun to think about, at least for a few seconds.
I heard about this on NPR last night and wanted to learn more.
Takes a lot of courage for active duty folks to do this, even if it is anonymous. A lot of courage.
For weeks, the speculation was rampant: Will he run? Is it too soon? Can he really win? Can he mount a serious challenge to Hillary? He was the biggest domino yet to fall in the buildup to the 2008 presidential race. Exploratory trips to New Hampshire and Iowa only threw more fuel on the fire.
Well, yesterday's big news was a real indication that it indeed looks like he will run. He took the very important first step to doing just that, and it sent ripples through both parties not to mention the political punditry. The 2008 presidential race's great wild card is now, it seems, in the playoffs.
I speak, of course, of Dennis Kucinich, the adorable little Democratic congressman from Ohio. That mousy little scamp is at it again! It could take months to see how the impact of his presidential run is truly felt by his fellow contenders.
Oh yeah, and some guy from Illinois named Obama or Osama or something like that is running, too. But nobody really cares. Shitty timing for him, picking the same day as Kucinich to announce. Sorry, Hussein.
First off, of course, thoughts and prayers go out to South Dakota Democratic senator Tim Johnson. Regardless of party affiliation, I hope he makes a full recovery.
If he doesn't however, the governor of South Dakota is required by law to name a replacement to Johnson's seat to fill out the remainder of his term. The governor of South Dakota is a Republican.
Democrats currently hold a very tenuous 51-49 majority in the Senate. Were Johnson unable to remain in office, the governor could (and may be likely to) fill Johnson's seat with a Republican, pushing the Senate back to a 50-50 tie, in which case the Dark Lord Sith, Dracula Cheney, would be cast any tie-breaking votes that would be needed.
There's a good chance S.D.'s Republican governor would name a Republican to replace Johnson in the Senate. Which is a total dick move. Hey, Governor Assface of South Dakota, whatever the hell your name is: The people of your fine state elected a Democrat to that seat. If the Democrat whom they elected is unable to remain in office, you need to respect the wish of your state's residents and appoint a Democrat to replace him. Don't be a partisan hack or succumb to the fear that Dick Cheney's going to drink the blood of your children and sacrifice your dog to Satan if you don't pick a Republican. (Cheney iss going to do that anyway.)
To put it simply, Governor Douchebag, don't be a dick.
Hmm, let's see how this one gets digested: The outgoing Republican leadership of the House of Representatives (acting under the alias of the House ethics committee) exonerated the Republican leadership of the House of Representatives on Friday in the Mark Foley affair. The leadership may have been negligible in addressing the matter, they said, but there was certainly no cover up.
Well, of course not, you big sillies! This is what happens when the people who oversaw and participated in the cover-up then get the opportunity to "investigate" it. Its all so fucking meta it could cause one's head to explode trying to understand it. God, I love democracy in action.
This is our country indeed, heh Jonny Cougar?
